Sound Control Insulating Drapes

For this bedroom in Midtown New York City, out team at KOPA Drapes made and installed custom velvet drapes designed to make the room feel softer, quieter, and more comfortable.

The drapes are made in a rich green velvet that works beautifully with the neutral walls, light carpet, and black window frames. When the drapes are open, they frame the large window and add warmth to the room. When they are closed, they create a calm and cozy feeling, perfect for a bedroom.

These drapes were made with three layers. The front layer is the velvet fabric. Inside, we added an interliner. On the back, we used a blackout liner. This construction gives the drapes a fuller look and helps them hang nicely from top to bottom.

The three layers also make the drapes more functional. The interliner helps with insulation, which can make the room feel more comfortable in both cold and warm weather. The extra layers also help reduce outside noise, which is especially helpful in New York City. While drapes cannot block every sound, a heavier, layered drape can make a bedroom feel more peaceful. The impact is a bit similar to noise cancelling headphones. It does not cancel the noise, but it dampens the outside sounds.

The blackout liner helps keep outside light from coming through. This is important in a city bedroom, where streetlights, nearby buildings, and morning sun can affect sleep. With the drapes closed, the room becomes darker and more restful. This is why we made the drapes touching the floor.

This project is a good example of how custom drapes can be both beautiful and practical. For this Midtown bedroom, the goal was simple: create drapes that look elegant, feel substantial, and help make the room a better place to sleep and relax.
