Our philosophy
At KOPA Drapes, we believe that drapery is the final layer of a great room, the element that transforms a beautifully designed space into something truly complete. We work directly with homeowners and interior designers across New Jersey, New York and Connecticut to create window treatments that are as thoughtfully crafted as the homes they live in.
Each piece is made to order in our workroom, using a curated selection of beautiful fabrics. Our team handles every step, from the in-home design consultation to the final installation — with the care and precision your home deserves.
How we work
01
We come to you. Our design experts visit your home, assess light conditions, architecture, and your vision — at no charge.
02
We recommend the right height for your drapes, slightly off the floor, kissing the floor or with a break. We calculate the fabric stacking when the drapes are drawn open.
03
Each panel is made to your precise specifications. Custom widths, lengths, pleat styles, and lining — crafted in our atelier.
04
Our installation team arrives gloved and prepared. We hang, steam, adjust, and leave your home in perfect order.
How we work · Step 1
We help you design your home
Seeing the space in person allows us to understand the architecture of the room, the natural light, the furniture layout, and the overall design style. During this visit, we discuss your goals, whether it is creating softness with sheers, adding elegance with decorative drapes, improving privacy, or achieving room darkening for better sleep.
During the consultation, we guide you through a curated selection of fabrics, helping you evaluate color, texture, weight, and how the material interacts with light. Some fabrics create a soft, airy effect, while others add depth and richness to the room. We also consider how the fabric will pleat and drape, ensuring the final result looks elegant and proportionate to the window and the space.
The drapery hardware plays an important role in both the design and functionality of the window treatment. We help you select the right rods, rings, tracks, or motorized systems based on the style of the room and the practical needs of the installation. Decorative rods can add a refined architectural detail, while discreet tracks or motorized systems offer smooth and effortless operation.
How we work · Step 2
Getting things right
During our measurement visit, we carefully evaluate ceiling heights, wall conditions, window placement, and mounting options. We determine details such as whether the drapes should gently touch the floor or float slightly above it, the optimal height for tall or double-height ceilings, and the ideal spacing for drapery pockets or recessed tracks.
We advise on whether an inside mount or outside mount is best for the window and the design of the room. For clients seeking room darkening, we recommend option to minimize light gaps and recommend the best mounting to achieve optimal light control. When needed, we also provide guidance on ceiling pocket dimensions.
For complex projects such as curved motorized tracks, double-height draperies, custom-shaped cornices, or curved rods with rings, we take additional steps to ensure absolute precision. Our team carefully evaluates the space and creates templates to capture the exact shape and dimensions required.
How we work · Step 3
Draperies made right
Every fabric behaves differently, and our workroom has the expertise to work with a wide range of materials—from delicate sheers and lightweight linens to heavy velvets and richly textured decorative fabrics. Each panel is carefully cut, aligned, and sewn so that patterns match perfectly and seams remain clean and discreet.
The character of a drape is defined by its pleats. In our workroom, we craft a wide variety of pleat styles, including modern pinch pleats, ripplefold, wave pleat, grommets, inverted / box pleats, goblet pleats, cartridge pleats, and other custom configurations.
Before installation, the drapery panels are carefully fan-folded so the pleats are trained into their natural position. This preparation allows the folds to fall evenly and crisply once the drapes are hung.
How we work · Step 4
Every detail counts
Our installation team carefully installs all drapery hardware to ensure both beauty and reliable performance. This includes decorative rods with rings, manual traverse tracks, and advanced motorized systems. Each installation is aligned with precision so the hardware sits perfectly level and operates smoothly.
Once the drapery panels are installed, we carefully dress the fabric so that every pleat falls naturally and evenly. Our installers shape and adjust each fold by hand, guiding the fabric into its intended form so the drapes create clean vertical lines and elegant proportions.
The final step is steaming the drapes so the fabric falls beautifully and naturally. Steaming removes any wrinkles from fabrication and installation and allows the folds to settle into crisp, smooth lines.
