A very prevalent trend in window treatments is currently roman shade valances. They are also known as faux romans or stationary romans.
Roman valances are non operational soft fabric valances designed to look like a roman shade when it is pulled up. However, unlike traditional roman shades, roman valances are stationary and cannot be operated to go up and down. Designers are opting for the modern elegant style of roman shade valances. These give the window the look of roman shades without the extra bulk of fabric. They are also a great option for those seeking to dress their windows, but maximizing desired sunlight or views that they do not want to obstruct.
For our recent project in Upper Saddle River, our design team recommended roman shade valances to coordinate with the modern clean design of the clients dining room and kitchen. Unlike bedrooms, dining rooms and kitchens are rooms in a home where sunlight should be maximized. For this reason we recommended faux romans.
This customer desired a more decorative look in her dining room, but did not want to completely obstruct the natural sunlight that comes in. Using a tone on tone geometric fabric with a subtle satin sheen elevated the style and gave it the custom coordinated look that the client wanted to achieve. Bringing in the geometric pattern from the gorgeous light fixture took the look to the next level. Having a tone on tone pattern is also a great option when the client does not want to introduce another color and prefers to keep the window treatments neutral. Our team hand crafted matching pillows for the window seat in the kitchen.
With open floor plans and adjacent rooms, using the same window treatments is a great way to connect spaces and create flow.
When considering ways to decorate your living spaces, the options are endless. Trying to pick the suitable fabrics can be very overwhelming. A faux roman shade is a great option if you are looking to dress certain windows without obstructing the natural light. With the right fabric selection, a faux roman can add flow and dimension to a room or an entire living space.
